The amplitude of the surroundings from the north and west suggested us to use a courtyard typology. This typology creates a sense of essecureness, which we considered as accurate for a children day care center. The plot is situated next to a main street, the Ingolstädter Strasse, so that we tried to create a barrier against the traffic and noise with this typology. The settlement also includes a large number of detached housings, each one with a singular form, so that we tried to create with the courtyard typology a unique perceptible center for the quarter.

The roof area unifies and connects the kindergarten with the crib. The entrance is situated in the atrium around the courtyard, so that both institutions are constantly connected. The design of the interior of the courtyard is based upon the idea of differentiation between play - and move landscape.

All public spaces, like the mensa, the waiting area, the corridors open and are attached to the courtyard. The corridors are articulated with the courtyard, creating playing areas. The height of the group rooms offers a special  retreat to the children.
